Saavy Natural Soap Shark Tank Net Worth

If it is true that the skin absorbs everything that is put on it, then why would you put something on your skin that you would not be prepared to consume?

That was the question that chefs and restaurateurs Hugo and Debra Saavedra found themselves grappling with, before coming up with the answer in the form of Saavy Naturals, a range of soaps and personal care products comprised of 100% natural ingredients.

Having always included herbs and edible plants in their cooking, it seemed only logical to them that the exact same principles should be applied to their lotions.

And so it was that they devised a line of natural, gluten-free, non-GMO, responsibly sourced and entirely vegan products.

Having acquired a good reputation around the farmers’ markets of Los Angeles, they decided to branch out and began marketing their products online.  Before long they were available through Whole Foods, California Fresh Markets, Lassen’s – and even Amazon.

They needed funds to expand further, so who better to turn to than the celebrity entrepreneurs and investors from Shark Tank?

At a Glance

Hugo and Debra Saavedra were seeking an investment of $200,000 (or more) for 10% equity in the company.

They explained that they have experience of running a multi-million dollar company, but had lost their previous controlling interest.

This time they were looking to go it alone.

Most of the Sharks were unwilling to commit, for a variety of reasons.

But after having walked away at first Barbara Corcoran returned with an offer of $100,000 upfront, and another $100,000 as a line of credit.

She offered to fund purchase orders for a 40% equity position.

Who are the Founders?

Hugo and Debra are both former chefs and restaurant owners who share a passion for gardening and for using all-natural ingredients in all of their produce.

This has always been the case with their cooking, and equally, it is a principle that they brought to their endeavors when they launched their Saavy Natural range of soaps and beauty products.

Their experience in natural beauty care products spans some twenty years, and the vibrancy of their colors and scents has led to them being challenged by the natural industry who have found it difficult to credit their authenticity.

Did Saavy Natural Get a Deal on the Show?

The couple pitched for a $200,000 investment in return for a 10% stake.  Mark Cuban declared an interest in a rival enterprise and took no further part.

Kevin O’Leary was not convinced that the product had any real value, whilst Lori Greiner believed the field in which they were operating was too crowded.

Robert Herjavec offered the cash in return for a 45% share in the company.  But it was Barbara Corcoran who secured the deal.

What Happened to the Entrepreneurs After the Show?

It would appear that the deal with Barbara Corcoran was in fact never closed.

Nevertheless, the exposure Hugo and Debra received from appearing on the show would seem to have stood them in good stead.

Not long after it was broadcast they opened a new retail store in Pacific City, California, and the company now has an estimated net worth of $1.2 million.

About the Product

Savvy Naturals are, as the name suggests, all-natural products which are non-GMO, gluten-free, cruelty-free and entirely vegan.

They are free from parabens and sulfates, biodegradable, and third-party batch-tested for purity.

Despite some skepticism from within the industry – surely a tribute to the quality of the products themselves – they have been certified as entirely natural and made solely with concern-free ingredients.

Individual products include soaps, scrubs, candles, bath bombs, creams and hair care options.

The manufacturers boast that theirs is skincare you can actually eat, and this would appear to have been borne out when it was sampled by the investors on the Shark Tank show.

Their food-grade ingredients demonstrate that it is entirely possible to manufacture beauty products that do not rely on artificial additives in order to make them viable.

Their combined experience in the kitchen proved invaluable when it came to filling a gap in the market in a more aware and environmentally conscious age,

Some Interesting Facts

Saavy Naturals has enjoyed a good amount of success since the appearance by Hugo and Debra on Shark Tank.

The product range has been expanded to include baby items, and is available to purchase from a number of outlets including Amazon and the company’s own website.

The underlying principle behind the concept is that anything which goes onto the body must be good enough, and safe enough, to be absorbed into the body.

This is amply demonstrated by the fact that Saavy Naturals products can be safely consumed internally.  Some even say they are pleasant to the taste!
